Community Champions: JP II Collegiate Senior Girls Basketball Team Raises $20,000 for COPS (Community Oncology Program of Saskatchewan) Department at BUH
We are incredibly grateful to the John Paul II Collegiate Senior Girls Basketball Team for their outstanding fundraising efforts supporting the COPS Department at Battlefords Union Hospital. Their dedication and generosity exemplify the power of community and the impact that young leaders can have in making a difference. On behalf of the Battlefords Healthcare Foundation, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the team, their supporters, and everyone who contributed to this meaningful cause.
Through their hard work and commitment, the team successfully raised an incredible $20,000, ensuring that all funds will directly support cancer patients in the community of North Battleford.
The Pink Game Tradition
The John Paul II Collegiate Senior Girls Basketball Team is dedicated to continuing the fight against breast cancer! On March 4th, 2025, they hosted Wilkie for the annual provincial “Pink Game.”
This tradition began in 2009, when Coach Al Wandler and the Assiniboia Rockets Senior Girls Basketball Team hosted the first-ever Pink Game. They raised money for cancer research, purchased pink uniforms, and played a game dedicated to the cause. The following year, the Frontier Raiders, who had played in Assiniboia, were gifted pink uniforms and encouraged to pay it forward. The Raiders then hosted their own Pink Game, bought jerseys for their visiting team, and the cycle continued. Fourteen years later, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been raised, and over twenty teams have participated in this impactful initiative.
JP II Collegiate has proudly been part of this movement, previously participating in the Pink Game in Meadow Lake. This year, they are carrying the tradition forward with their “Crusade Against Cancer” fundraising project, culminating in the Pink Game.
A Gift That Stays Local
All the money raised by the JP II Crusaders stays within the North Battleford community, directly benefiting cancer patients at Battlefords Union Hospital’s COPS dept. Their season-long fundraising efforts are a testament to their passion, resilience, and ongoing commitment to making a difference.
We celebrate the JP II Collegiate Senior Girls Basketball Team for their inspiring dedication and generosity. Their efforts not only support those battling cancer but also strengthen the fabric of our community, proving that together, we can make a real impact.
Thank you, Crusaders, for your incredible leadership in the fight against cancer!
