Wayne Pruden Memorial Golf Tournament Celebrates 30 Years of Supporting Local Healthcare
BATTLEFORDS, SK – Rain, sunshine, and everything in between greeted golfers on Monday, June 1, as the Battlefords Healthcare Foundation hosted the 30th Annual Wayne Pruden Memorial Golf Tournament at the North Battleford Golf & Country Club.
Like most years, Mother Nature kept everyone guessing, but that didn't stop golfers from enjoying a great day on the course. Teams showed up ready to have fun, support local healthcare, and continue a tradition that has become part of the fabric of our community.
For 30 years, the Wayne Pruden Memorial Golf Tournament has brought people together for a cause that matters. What started three decades ago continues today because of the volunteers, sponsors, golfers, and businesses that keep showing up year after year.
A special thank you goes to long-time committee members and volunteers Patti and Terri Lumsdon, Jerry Wintonik, Cheryl Mitchell, Sue Pruden McIvor, Dr.Matt Pruden, Barney and Norma Folkerson, Carey Tolfeson, Cathie Ornawka, and David Schell. Their time, energy, and care have helped make this tournament what it is today.
This year's tournament also recognized Cheryl Mitchell as the recipient of the Spirit of Giving Award. Presented annually, the award recognizes someone who continually gives back to our community and supports local healthcare. Cheryl's involvement with the Foundation, her volunteerism, and her willingness to help wherever needed make her a deserving recipient.
"Thirty years is something to be proud of," said Leanne Ducommun, Executive Director of the Battlefords Healthcare Foundation. "When I look around this tournament, I see familiar faces who continue to support healthcare year after year. I see volunteers who work behind the scenes, sponsors who believe in what we do, and golfers who keep coming back because they care about their community. That support never goes unnoticed, and we are incredibly grateful."
A special thank you is extended to Innovation Federal Credit Union, the tournament's Master Sponsor, for their ongoing support and commitment to helping improve healthcare close to home.
We are also grateful to the many sponsors, prize donors, volunteers, and golfers who make this event possible. Simply put, we could not do this without the support of our community.
Funds raised through this year's tournament will support the purchase of a Urinalysis Microscope for the Laboratory Department at Battlefords Union Hospital. This equipment helps laboratory staff identify infections, kidney conditions, and diabetes. Having access to reliable equipment helps ensure patients receive accurate results and timely care.
While there are many great golf tournaments held throughout the region, reaching 30 years speaks to something special. It speaks to the people who continue to support local healthcare, the friendships built over the years, and a community that understands the importance of giving back.
Thirty years later, the Wayne Pruden Memorial Golf Tournament is still going strong because of the people behind it.
30 Years of Heart. 30 Years of Connection.
