Dialysis Expansion
Your donation this year will directly impact healthcare in our community.
Funds raised help purchase 10 New Dialysis Chairs at Battlefords Union Hospital.
Growing Need
In March 2026, the Renal Dialysis Department at Battlefords Union Hospital saw a significant increase in demand, growing from 40 to 56 patients requiring ongoing, life-sustaining treatment.
What Dialysis Means
Dialysis is essential for survival. It acts as an artificial kidney by removing toxins and excess fluid from the blood.
Patients receive treatment 3 times per week
Each session lasts 3–4 hours
Total care is approximately 12 hours per week per patient
Daily Schedule
To meet demand, dialysis runs operate three times daily:
7:00 AM to 11:30 AM
12:00 PM to 4:30 PM
5:00 PM to 9:30 PM
Serving Our Region
Battlefords Union Hospital supports patients across northwest Saskatchewan, including rural and remote communities.
Some patients travel up to 4 hours, such as from Canoe Narrows
Local access reduces major travel burdens
Real Impact
The addition of a third daily run:
Eliminates approximately 48 trips to Saskatoon each week
Reduces travel costs, stress, and time away from family
Supports patients who often face financial limitations due to treatment demands
What We’re Working on Now
These are the projects we are currently investing in each one reflecting a real need and a meaningful opportunity to improve care.
CARE CLOSE TO HOME
Project Investment & Impact
Every dollar given to the BHC Foundation stays right here supporting patient care, comfort, and dignity across our hospital.
Behind every piece of equipment and every space we improve, there is a person, someone receiving care, a family navigating a difficult moment, and a healthcare provider doing everything they can.
This is where your support goes.
